Celebrating Recovery. Recognizing Excellence.
CenterPointe Discovering the Future event will feature national spokeswoman for mental health recovery; present Community Conscience Award to Allied Insurance – a Nationwide Company.
Lincoln, NE, August 16, 2012: Laura Lawless was a top 15 finalist in the Miss America competition, graduated cum laude from Harvard University, and received her law degree with honors. But Lawless considers her greatest achievement adapting to and accepting her own experiences as an individual living with a mental illness. She will share her inspiring story of recovery and hope at this year's Discovering the Future Event.
Mental illness affects as many as one in four Americans. Topher Hansen, CenterPointe Executive Director shares, "Nearly everyone that CenterPointe serves is experiencing both a mental illness and an addiction. They face tremendous obstacles to recovery. With help from the community people can live healthier, more productive lives. That's why it's important to come together and hear stories like Laura's. Recovery is possible." Discovering the Future is CenterPointe's premier fundraising event. Proceeds support treatment and services for homeless and low-income women, men and teens in our community.
At the event CenterPointe will recognize Allied Insurance – a Nationwide Company with this year's Community Conscience Award. The award is given to a company who is doing good in the community while doing well in business.
Allied Insurance has a long-history of supporting local charitable organizations with generous gifts of time, talent and treasure. In 2011, associate volunteers logged 2,055 hours of service at 75 separate organizations. "We're pleased to recognize this great company. They are truly deserving of the recognition," states Topher Hansen, CenterPointe Executive Director.
