DBT Intensive Outpatient Program for Adolescents
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a comprehensive, evidence-based cognitive behavioral treatment focused on problem solving and acceptance-based strategies.
Who Can Benefit
- Adolescents (ages 13-18) with:
- Suicidal thoughts and/or behaviors
- Self-harm behaviors (e.g., cutting)
- Significant decrease in functioning at school and/or at home
- Severe symptoms of anxiety and/or depression
- Significant difficulty regulating emotions
- Individuals engaging in substance use
Goals of DBT:
- Reduce suicidal thoughts and behaviors
- Reduce self-harm behaviors (e.g., cutting)
- Improve ability to regulate emotions and cope with stress
- Improve important areas of life such as school, home, friendships and family relationships
- Reduce the need for higher level of care
- Reduce/eliminate substance use
- Help learn skills to build a life worth living
Program Features
Comprehensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) includes:
- Individual and group therapy
- Multi-family skills groups to help foster positive family relationships
- 24/7 phone coaching for teens
- Small group setting
- Longer duration, increasing likelihood of desired outcomes
- Licensed clinicians
- Coordination with psychiatry and medication management providers
- Support with transitions between IOP, inpatient and outpatient therapy
- Coordination with outside mental health providers, school staff and appropriate medical professionals
