History – CenterPointe began in 1973 as Lincoln Lancaster Drug Projects, also known as Full Circle. This was one of the first programs in the nation to offer integrated substance use and mental health care in the 1980s. We added housing services during the 1990s.
Mission – CenterPointe helps the people we serve get better, sooner, for longer.
Treatment Philosophy – Here at CenterPointe, we use a bio-psycho-social treatment model to address mental illness and addiction at the same time and on equal terms. We do not use a 12-step treatment model but encourage people to connect with a 12-step self-help group if they find it helpful to their ongoing recovery.
Who we serve – We serve women, men, teens, and veterans. The majority of CenterPointe consumers experience both severe and persistent mental illness and addiction issues. Nearly every individual CenterPointe serves has very low or no income when they enter our programs.
Homelessness – More than 50% of people are experiencing homeless when they come into outpatient services. Everyone served in housing programs is experiencing homeless or at risk of homelessness.
How many we serve – CenterPointe served for FY 2019-20 were 3,370. People are often involved in more than one program while they are in care.
Service area – The majority of CenterPointe programs serve Lincoln and Southeast Nebraska, but several programs will also serve people from Western Nebraska. Programs are available in Omaha for Cass, Dodge, Douglas, Sarpy, and Washington counties.
Key goals for persons served:
- Manage mental health symptoms
- Eliminate or reduce substance use
- Live in the community as independently as possible
- Engage in a program of recovery
Programs – CenterPointe provides 35+ programs in the areas of treatment, rehabilitation, housing, and crisis response. Programs work together to provide individualized care appropriate to each person.
Funding – Primary funding comes from Medicaid, State Behavioral Health funds, and federal funds. Fundraising helps us meet the gap between government funding and the rising costs to provide services. Our budget is approximately $12 million.
Staffing – We employ approximately 203 FTE. Several employees have 15 or more years of service with CenterPointe.
Accreditation – CenterPointe is CARF accredited and has received full 3-year accreditation on its last 3 surveys.
Volunteers – CenterPointe has a Board of Directors that varies between 16 and 23 members. Other volunteer opportunities are limited due to the confidentiality needs of the people we serve.
